QOTW: Gaining Strength By Facing Fear

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.”

-Eleanor Roosevelt

Earlier this week, my wife Jen and I were out walking our dog and talking about her current job search. After spending most of her adult life working for universities, Jen desires to move into the corporate world. Unfortunately, the job market today is not exactly ideal, especially for people like her who are hoping to switch careers. With so many professionals currently unemployed, the job seekers far outnumber the jobs available. Additionally, websites like and have basically commoditized the job market. Employers know the basic requirements they want and if your resume doesn’t perfectly match those requirements, well, good luck getting your name picked for an interview.

Have you found yourself in this dilemma? Or what about the other infamous catch-22 about jobs: you need experience to get the job, but you need the job to get the experience!

This is when the fear sets in. This is when you start to tell yourself you can’t do it. This is when you start to settle. Well that’s no way to live!

I believe there are opportunities out there for everyone, but what it takes to succeed today is different than it used to be. I also believe that the principles I write about here at Life’s Flight Plan can help. This site is all about charting your path and attaining success!  Simply submitting resumes doesn’t work…at least very well. It takes more. It takes a flight plan. It takes checklists to guide action. And then, just like going solo, you have to stop looking back and focus on the future, believing in yourself and your abilities. As Eleanor Roosevelt suggests, you must do the thing which you think you cannot do.

Unfortunately, those steps are rarely laid out in detail. I’m announcing today that soon, I will be doing just that.

Earlier this year, I laid out my 2012 New Year’s Resolutions, one of which was to create a seminar based on the principles in this blog. I wanted to find something that would bring real value to my readers like you. Soon, I will be rolling out more about this program, but what I can tell you now is that it will be a simple, concise and highly effective guide to using the principles I write about every week to help you achieve your goals.

We’re going to face fear together. And step by step, we’ll gain strength, courage, confidence and success! You won’t want to miss it!
